Meet Maple—a Boer goat matriarch with “seen it all” energy and a heart big enough to hold a whole herd. She arrived as the steady center (and likely mom) of a 14-strong group of CL-infected goats—a herd that would have been destroyed if not for a rescuer who refused to take “no” for an answer. They petitioned Krystal relentlessly to take them, knowing it meant something huge: a dedicated yard, careful management, and a commitment to keep everyone safe—including the rest of the sanctuary. That’s the kind of choice you only make when you believe every life is worth the work. Maple is very old now, with poor eyesight, but she’s still the matriarch through and through. We built her a space where she can slip away from her rambunctious progeny when she needs peace—especially at meal times—then rejoin them to offer the calm guidance and love only a true elder can give.
